It all comes down to Sunday in Super League race

The race for the Super League title comes down to this Sunday, with both Westport United and Manulla still in with a shout of claiming the title. The defending champions Westport United know that they need just a point from their game away to Claremorris to retain the title, while Manulla will be hoping they can see off local rivals Castlebar Celtic on the road and that Claremorris do them a favour to force a play-off for the title. If fortune favours United it will be a fantastic fourth league title in a row for the Covies. These two games kick-off at 2.30pm.

Super Sunday in store on local front

This weekend sees the 2017 Mayo League soccer season kick off, with 34 different sides lined up for competition this season. In the top division all eyes will be fixed on seeing whether anyone can finally step up and stop Westport United's domination of the league. Last season Ballina Town gave it a right good go, but came up short down the home stretch with John Brennan's men edging them out down the home stretch.

Ballina Town are the last Mayo side involved in the FAI Junior Cup and they will fly the flag for the county on Sunday when they host Roscommon outfit Boyle Celtic in the sixth round of the national competition at 2pm in Pete Murray Park in Belleek.

Two of the three Mayo sides in FAI Junior Cup action have home advantage this weekend in the fifth round of the FAI Junior Cup, with just Super League champions Westport United hitting the road to take on Swords based outfit Rivervalley Rangers in the nation's capital.

Hoban in Regions Cup squad

Westport United's David Hoban will be part of the Irish squad that will take part in this Regions Cup in Italy at the end of the month. The United man will make up part of a 18-man squad that have been drawn in a group with Macedonia, Slovenia and Italy. Manulla's Cillian McGlade has been put on standby for the squad. The competition kicks off on September 28 when Ireland take on Italy, they follow that up with a clash with Macedonia on September 30 and then take on Slovenia on October 2.

Mayo League hand out first awards of new season

The first batch of Mayo League awards for the new season was announced this week with Crossmolina winning the award for Team of the Month for the March/April period. The Manager of the Month Award has gone to Brian Smith of Straide and Foxford United, who guided the Green Road outfit to five wins in their opening seven games in the Premier League.
